OKRIKA AND THE APC, 8 YEARS AFTER
From running through buildings with the locals to cut off the extensive trail of humans, to dancing with the locals, arms held in unbreakable unison, to learning new local chants, (some I’ve actually heard before anyway), was I really in Okrika campaigning for the APC?
Rewind 8 years ago just before the 2015 gubernatorial elections, this same Okrika brings back painful memories. Gunshots, cries, real fear, and blood greeted us as the APC was about to kick off her campaigns. Our sin was that we were members of the APC. This memory is still very fresh in the subconscious of Rivers APC members.
Okrika was a hot spot for the APC, seeing the frosty relationship between the then Wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, who is from Okrika, a very ambitious, power thirsty Minister of State for Education in 2015, and current Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, and then Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Wike had deceived the PDP leadership in the state that the zoning arrangement must be discarded because only he knew where Amaechi hid his Chi. It was a bloodbath against Rivers APC members in Rivers State.
In the words of Apostle G. D Numbere of blessed memory, “time and events will tell”, and indeed time and events have told the Wakirike people who really had their interest at heart. Not one sorry 6 inch block has Wike laid in Okrika local government area after his many promises in 2015, and again in 2019. How can a man lie through his teeth so effortlessly and thunder not strike him? Is God wasting mercy? Okrika people were in unity today, dancing and singing. The rejected stone has become the chief corner stone. APC is campaigning not just freely, but in her numbers.
To the Okrika people, we say thank you and we forgive you. A lie can travel for many miles while the truth is still lacing her shoes. Okrika people have seen everyone for who they truly are, who loves them and who pays lip service to use them to advance their selfish political quest. APC is coasting to Victory and this election would be a referendum in this state, that brutish, intimidating, and bitter politics never ends well. There’ll be no hope for the PDP on March 11th as the people are everyday identifying with the progressive family in Rivers State, reconnecting to the Rivers of Possibilities.
